Sectors and services:

National Mapping Agencies
Long term projects have been completed for national mapping agencies in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Portugal and Greece.
Many projects relate to the update of digital map data over large areas. Often data is captured from aerial photography by Mason using the latest softcopy photogrammetic workstations.
The Photogrammetry Department at Mason is one of the largest commercial operations in the UK. Its skilled personnel have a proven track record of delivering large programs on time and to budget. Mason can provide total processing within the UK.
A recent two year project for the Ordnance Survey of Ireland was completed by teams working in shifts, 24 hours a day. Vectors were captured to 1:5,000 scale over rural areas, from 1:40,000 scale aerial photography. Each feature could have up to 8 attributes, requiring efficient creation of topology and robust QA procedures.
Ministry of Defence
Measured building surveys, land and aerial photogrammetric surveys have been performed for Defence Estates. Surveys have been completed on RAF bases around the UK and abroad; including RAF Brawdy, RAE (Royal Aircraft Establishment) West Freugh, RAFC (Royal Air Force College) Cranwell
RAF Barkston Heath, HM Garrison Dhekelia. Obstruction surveys have also been provided. More information is available on our airports web page.
Environment Agency
During the 1990s a number of extensive river surveys were conducted throughout the Midlands and South of England on behalf of the UK’s Environment Agency. The main method of data capture was by photogrammetry using stereo aerial photography; this provides accurate height information on those features collected.
Surveys were produced to support construction of the famous Thames Barrier, built to defend London against flooding. Mason have also conducted a number of surveys related to other flood defence schemes. Beach profile surveys and monitoring services have been provided to the Environment Agency, utilising GPS technology.
Central Government
Mason provide services to various central government organisations. Measured building surveys and asset inventories have been completed for the Cabinet Office. CAD processing followed the surveys in order to standardise the level of detail, layering and office furniture content across the organisations database.
Numerous surveys have been completed on transportation projects of national significance. Some completed directly for government organisations, others for contractors working on behalf of government. Mason worked extensively on the East & West Coast Mainline rail modernisation programs, plus extensive topographical survey in support of the M6 (Toll) Northern Relief Road scheme.
Working through its partner TerraImaging, Mason are a member of a LIDAR survey consortium providing surveys to the UK Highways Agency under a framework program.
Mason have worked extensively at airports operated by the British Airports Authority for the past 8 years. Numerous projects have been completed for councils throughout the UK and Ireland. Projects fall into three main areas; those that require topographical survey, those that require measured building survey and those that are office based.
Topographical surveys have been conducted in support of construction projects, flood defence schemes, park development and road projects. In addition to survey above ground, such projects often require tracing of underground services. Mason also have experience of tree surveys and street furniture surveys; utilizing the latest GPS equipment for rapid digital feature acquisition.
Measured building surveys have been provided to local government for all types of government owned buildings; including town halls, offices, municipal leisure centres and social housing. Numerous surveys have been delivered to Housing Associations.
Mason have worked on various projects to digitise paper based records and to create related databases. The transferral of archived planning records into digital form is one such example.
