Mason provides services to oil & gas, water; telecoms and electricity related utility organisations.
Sectors & Services:

Pipelines
Routes can be readily surveyed by Mason using aerial photography and satellite imagery. Accurate 3D features can be captured and digital landscapes produced using the state of the art photogrammetric processing facilities at Mason’s head office in Dunfermline.
With its large land survey department, Mason can also supply ground based teams to survey pipelines or routes, anywhere in the world. Where LIDAR survey is required, Mason work with their partners at TerraImaging to deliver a comprehensive survey service.
Mason has experience of many pipeline surveys, conducted on behalf of pipeline specialists working on projects for a diverse range of customers. Pipeline surveys have been completed for ESSO, the UK Ministry of Defence, British Petroleum (BP), Air BP, Transco, A Hak, JP Kenny, Montgomery Watson, ARUP, Binnie Black & Veatch, Entrepos, Earthtec and MJ Gleeson.
Plant & Infrastructure Survey
A number of techniques can be applied by Mason to capture detailed information inside industrial and utility plants. To pick up fine detail precisely high precision total stations are used. In areas where access is quite restricted then close-range photogrammetry and laser scanning are techniques that can be applied.
Close range photogrammetry involves photos being taken of the features to be surveyed. The photos are carefully set up to provide stereo coverage. The stereo photography is then digitally processed by specialist photogrammetrists to extract 3D line work. The line work is captured directly to a CAD format and can be layered in any many the customer requires.
Laser scanning involves capturing a tight grid of points over the features to be captured. Each point scanned has a 3D coordinate. Unlike close range photogrammetry stereo coverage is not essential, although multiple shots of the same feature may be required. Line work can be extracted to CAD files from these grids, commonly known as point clouds.
Solid 3D models of the plant features can be easily rendered utilising the point cloud information.
Mason also has experience of monitoring structures, such as dams, on behalf of water companies.
Asset Capture
Mason can send experienced survey teams out into the field to record the location of any utility assets requested. In addition to the location information, other attribute information can be picked up and entered digitally for database creation. The locational accuracy required will dictate the type of instrument used. Mason has experience of utilising total stations, GPS units and PDAs for this type of project. Data is supplied to the customer in CAD or GIS format.
Digital record conversion
Digitising paper maps, plans and converting other paper records into digital format is a Mason speciality. Large conversion projects have been completed for a number of high profile organisations including: Eastern Electric, Cairn Energy and Alcatel.
